Old Business:

Rock ‘n Roll Marathon Status To date, 72 volunteers have signed up. Ruth Kalies, Glenda Chambers, and Marian Wilcox attended first informational meeting. The water station is located at Aurora Ave N and Republican. One of the bands will be playing across the street. There will be a walkthrough with marathon officials at the actual site. Ruth and Glenda agreed to schedule the walkthrough.

2009 Region Training Last month, it was voted to hold the 2009 Region Training in Yakima. The Region will pay for lunch for Pioneers. Spouses or Partners that attend must pay their own way. The Region will not pay mileage. Linda Copeland estimated the cost of mileage to be about $700 to $900.
Motion from Glenda Chambers to have Washington Chapter reimburse attendees for their mileage to and from Yakima at a rate of 20˘ per mile. Seconded by Patty Boyce. Motion carried. Anyone who wishes can donate their mileage reimbursement back to the Chapter.

Springwood Ranch Luncheon Puget Sound LMC and Green River Combined Club expressed interest in joining Cascadian LMC at a luncheon at the Springwood Ranch outside Ellensburg. John Martin will get information on a date in September. He also suggested a side trip to Central WA State University in Ellensburg to visit the chimpanzees that communicate with sign language. Marian Wilcox agreed to distribute information from John to the club/council presidents.

New Business:

2009 TelecomPioneers Scholarship Winner The granddaughter of a Washington Chapter life member was awarded one of the 2009 TelecomPioneers scholarships. Her name is Leah Griff. The award is in the amount of $1,000 and will be applied to tuition and other fees for the 2009-2010 school year.

2009 Awards Committee Glenda agreed to be the Awards Chairperson for Washington Chapter. Lois Beedle agreed to help Glenda with computer related tasks. Award nominations for local Chapter Awards are due to Glenda by September 1st.

National Awards must be turned in to the Region Awards Chairperson, Cheryl Daughtry by September 15th. Her email address is sddaugh@cox.net. All nominations must be in electronic format. The updated 2009 Awards Manual is now available at this site: http://www.pioneersvolunteer.org/awards/default.aspx. All awards will be reviewed for completeness by the Region Awards Committee before being sent on to the National Awards Committee. Chapter Raffle License Linda Copeland reported that the Chapter Raffle License has been renewed and is good until May 2010. The fee is now $185. We have a maximum earnings amount of $10,000 per year. Last year, we had only one raffle which earned only $200. Linda encouraged all clubs/councils to use the license. Now that we are registered as a 501(c)3 organization with the State of Washington, raffles can be advertised in club/council newsletters. It was suggested a raffle would be a good Chapter fundraiser.
