Beyond servitude? What proof? I wear my nightgown at midday
and the hem sweeps the ground clean.

If life is a death sentence I want mine to end with an exclamation mark.

Where you gripped my wrist
that last time
are those bright bruises
like fading grins.

The waitress's hair is not really blonde
I woulda preferred Sappho to the six o'clock news
The man on the corner with a head in his trenchcoat's a cop
and the panhandler has a trust fund set up.

I was wondering what kind of monster
might best suit that loafer
leaning to one side
outside the record store
with a dogless leash hanging slack
from his loitering hand.
I could walk past
in a nonchalant chapeau
holding a wriggling paper sack
n when he was in the midst of longtime stares
at wobbly not yet jelled teen queens
I'd slyly clip my omniverous beast
onto his chain
and watch as he was raunchily devoured.
