Pursuant to the provisions of RCW 52.12.101 to 108, as implemented by Thurston County Ordinance No. 152-98, BURN PERMITS are required for ALL outdoor burning. All permitted fires must meet the following requirements: 1. MUST have a firebreak 3'-5' wide to mineral earth around fire. ALL fires in burn barrels are a CRIME, and subject to penalties. 2. Burn during daylight hours, dawn to dusk ONLY. 3. Responsible person must remain in attendance at all times during burn, until fire is OUT, and COLD. 4. Burn only ONE fire at a time. 5. Burn ONLY natural vegetation. NO treated wood, garbage, plastic, dead animals, petroleum products, paint, etc., or any other material that emits dense smoke or obnoxious odors. 6. NO burning within 20 feet of ANY structure or wooden fence. 7. NO running fires. 8. NO burn piles larger than four (4) feet in diameter. 9. Use good judgement regarding wind conditions to prevent spread of fire or unpleasant emissions neighboring houses. 10. Rochester Fire Department is authorized to enter private property to inspect ALL outdoor fires. 11. Maintain the following special equipment at burn site: Shovel, charged water hose, or other water supply. CALL 911 to report ALL outdoor fires. The fire department maintains a list of ALL permitted fires.
