Who We Are

The idea to organize a professional singing group came in November of 1995, when several Russian families gathered together for a traditional Holiday celebration. They sang popular folk songs, danced and played games. In order to keep Russian traditions and songs alive our Folk group was formed under the directorship of Olga Sukhover. Ms. Sukhover was awarded her Master's degree in Folk Music from the Moscow Gnesin Institute where she studied Choir Conducting and Piano. She worked for several years with the Children's Choir in Moscow before coming to the United States.

Now our Russian Folk Group "Khorovod" performs and shares the traditions, folk songs and dances from the different regions of Russia. We have been performing throughout the Puget Sound area. Venues have included the St. Spiridon Cathedral Orthodox Church in America, the Fremont Baptist Church, the Russian Consulate, the Russian club, Everett Community College, Seattle Central Community College, the University of Washington, the Capital Building in Olympia, the Sea-Tac International Festival 1997. Since 1997, we have also been participating in the Fremont Street Fair and the Northwest Folklife Festival.

It is becoming a tradition to celebrate a "Maslenitsa" every year with the students of the Slavic Department at the University of Washington. We are very proud to have their support.
