year. Some of SCAA's new priorities include helping Seattle residents make informed decisions in upcoming elections, expanding our board, increasing our geographic diversity and membership, fighting any reduction in night-time curfews, suporting efforts looking into a new regional airport, questioning the third runway development, participating in the follow up to the Sea-Tac Part 150, and collecting independent noise data for residential neighborhoods. At the election of officers for 2001, Mike Ranta, a resident of Leschi, was elected President. Mr. Ranta previously held the title of Vice President, served on the Citizens Advisory Committee at Sea-Tac representing King County District 10, and has been actively involved in airport concerns for many years. Frank Bosl, of Leschi, was elected Vice President and liason to the Regional Commision on Airport Affairs. Mr. Bosl has been a very active and vocal particpant in many airport issues. Debra Adler, of Montlake, was elected Secretary. Ms. Adler has been an SCAA director for some time now and has assisted with several community efforts. J. William Keithan, of Magnolia, was re-elected Treasurer.

over the Duwamish and Elliott Bay. SCAA President Mike Ranta commented "This is simply outrageous. The FAA is routing the vast majority of north flow departures over many of the densest residential neighborhoods in Seattle while a better alternative is underutilized". Prior to the 1990 implementation of the "four post plan", all the traffic used the Duwamish route. This problem has been exacerbated lately by unusually fair weather this winter. The good weather has resulted in a much higher than average percentage of north flow operation. If Seattle's changing weather is indicative of a lasting trend, as some predict it is, this makes optimizing north flow flight tracks even more critical to area residents. The Executive Summary of the Study is posted on the SCAA website, www.airportnoise.org .

accurate information, as the result of criticisms from Ecology, King County's water-quality experts, the public, and experts working for runway opponents. Public comments addressed problems with fish and other wildlife populations, stream quality (including low water levels in the summer, ongoing and uncorrected pollution from the Airport), airport safety, lack of public benefit, failure to mitigate harm to communities, and, above all, the risky character of the four vertical earthen walls that are supposed to hold back the fill. The ACC's experts covered the same points, with a wealth of scientific and technical detail. Some critical points: the proposed wetlands mitigation at Auburn is valueless; the mitigation near the Airport is ill-considered; the design and research for the walls are highly suspect, raising serious safety issues. Comments of the ACC experts and many other commenters have been posted on the RCAA website, which can be reached through the SCAA site, or direct at www.rcaanews.org (Library-Water Pollution/Wetlands)
