Airport Siting Legislation -- Senate Bill 5585

State Senate Bill 5585, which would create a process to site a new regional airport in Washington State, was introduced by Senator Julia Patterson (D, 33rd). A companion (identical) House Bill introduced by Representative Karen Keiser's (D, 33rd) is State House Bill 1511.  SB 5585 was referred to the Senate Transportation Committee, but Senator Patterson's request for a hearing has been denied by Senator Mary Margaret Haugen (D, 10th), who is responsible for determining which bills receive hearings and consideration.  Senator Haugen also refused to refer the bill to the State and Local Government committee after Senator Patterson requested the change.  Senator Patterson's office feels there is strong support for Bill 5585. This bill will be reintroduced in the fall.
