Seattle Community Network Association - 2001 Election

The SCN Association will hold its 2001 Annual Meeting at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, April 25, 2001 at the University Branch of the Seattle Public Library at Roosevelt Way NE and NE 50th St.  At this meeting, an Annual Report will be given, Budget will be discussed, and Directors will be elected.

Election To Be Held at Annual Meeting

The membership will elect four Directors to the board for three-year terms. We would like to thank all the candidates who are running for office this year and encourage all SCNA members to vote.

We'd also like to thank those board members who served for the past several years. Directors Sharma Oliver, Gianni Truzzi and Allen Nicholson (all elected in 1997) completed their full terms of service this year, and Liz White (elected in 2000, to replace Jim Horton) resigned.

Four candidates have been certified to run for election for the Board of Seattle Community Network Association this year. Ti Locke, Randy Hayhurst, Ellen Earth and Adrienne Bailey. Information about these candidates is available online -- see below.

BREAKING NEWS: One of the four candidates was appointed by the Board on April 12, 2001 to fill out the remaining two years of Liz White's term on the board, and thus will not be standing for election this year.  Congratulations to Ti Locke on your new appointment to the Board!  You can learn more about our new Board member by reading her candidate page, just below:

Board Appointments
After the election, the board will consist of nine elected members. Any current appointed members' terms will expire on the day of the election.

Next Steps

Later this year, the new 2001 Board Development committee is expected to recommend one or more one-year appointments to the board, most likely of persons with specific accounting, legal, public and media relations, fundraising or other expertise that the Board may need. Such appointed members will serve until the date of next year's board election.

We consider it crucial to add to the Board qualified people who represent and can build relationships with the underserved communities that SCNA serves. Among equally qualified potential appointees, the board may give some preference to members who have stood for election in this or past years, thus expressing their belief in SCNA as a membership organization. But the primary role of any new appointed board members will be to bring needed expertise to the board, that we would not otherwise have.
