It is with great sadness that the Seattle Community Network
Association mourns the passing of Nancy Kunitsugu (nancyk).
Nancy was one of those rare volunteers who brought a
combination of intelligence, diligence, hard work and humor to
the SCN project. She was a long time volunteer from the early
days, a board member, and our second President.
Nancy was introduced to our project by Ken Gillgren, another
early supporter of the project. Her lack of ego, and ability to
communicate with everyone, made her ideal for the role of
Volunteer Coordinator. Through her hard work, SCN became more
than just a technology - it truly became a "community network"
as more and more grassroots groups and organizations were able
to put their information online. It was through Nancy's cadre
of volunteers that we were able to provide meaningful content to
SCN users.
Nancy joined the early Coordinating Council and later the Board
of Directors as SCN transitioned from a project of CPSR/Seattle
to its own non-profit organization, the Seattle Community
Network Association. She served as SCNA's first Vice-President
and then President the following year. Through all this her
warmth, wicked sense of humor and commitment kept us going. We
can honestly say that SCN would not be where it is today if it
weren't for Nancy. We will miss her dearly.

Aki's note tells the story - Nancy's warmth, *wicked sense of humor*
and dedication were some of our most solid - and reliable - resources
in the early days of building SCN. Nancy was ALWAYS there - always
building and planning and moving things forward.

We've been given updated information about the memorial service - it will
be happening this Sunday, 12/10, starting at 12:30. Check in at the
Arboretum's Graham Visitor's Center for directions to the exact location.
Thoughts & memories about having volunteered with Nancy can be sent to

Also, Nancy's family have established a memorial fund to donate books to
the school Nancy was a librarian in. If you'd like to make a donation,

Goodbye Dear Friend
I will miss your gentle spirit and supportive nature. You were one of a
kind and fair to those who crossed your path. SCN is only one of the
organizations that benefited from your persevering work in human and
social justice.
Thank you <nancyk@scn.org>
