SEAMEC's 25th year of interviewing candidates for public office is about to begin! This year's races include: Seattle Mayor, City Council and City Attorney, King County Council, Seattle School Board and Port of Seattle.

SEAMEC IS NOW FORMING INTERVIEW PANELS, which, as always, are composed of volunteers from the community. We will be conducting interviews on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings (and possibly Saturday late mornings or early afternoons) for one to three hours each day, starting the week of July 16 on and ending August 17 or 24. They will be held in locations on Capitol Hill, in Snohomish County and possibly Federal Way. Volunteers may, but need not, bring their own questions as SEAMEC has prepared questionnaires for the candidates -- only an open mind is required to fairly evaluate the candidates. Trainings will be held before the first interview each night of the week of July 16.

    Since 1977, the Seattle Metropolitan Elections Committee has interviewed, rated and endorsed candidates on issues of concern to the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender communities, in order to make for better-educated voters.

    This year, we are making some changes which we expect will further improve our process: trimming the length of the questionnaires and providing more time for free-flowing discussion with the candidates. We are also pleased to have hired Zorana Knapp as our Interview Coordinator, who has served ably with us before.
