There are still vacancies on the Steering Committee for one-year terms. Anyone who is interested, especially women of all races and men of color, are encouraged to apply. SEAMEC has a working board. Steering Committee members are required to attend monthly meetings (and a few extra meetings in late spring and summer), our ratings meetings in August and October, and to join one of our three subcommittees. Steering Committee members should also be familiar with our activities to some extent, and be members in good standing. People with ideas, initiative and follow-through are especially valued, as are those with special skills, such as website maintenance, graphic design, fundraising, database management or media interest.
Interested parties are welcome to attend and meet the Steering Committee, with no obligation. We meet on the first Thursday of each month.
Plans for the upcoming year include: continued refinement of SEAMEC's process; improving our finances; effective use of volunteers; improved distribution; publication of SEAMEC's candidate research and voting records; and expanded outreach to other community organizations.
If you have questions or want futher information, please call Herb Krohn at 206-559-7775 or write SEAMEC at seamec@seamec.org.
SEAMEC is a non-partisan civic organization that interviews and rates candidates running for political and judicial office in Seattle, King and Snohomish Counties, and the State of Washington. SEAMEC evaluates candidates on their knowledge of, record of proven activism for, and commitment to the concerns of the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered (GLBT) communities. SEAMEC publishes its ratings in advance of the primary and general elections, so voters can make an informed choice.
* We operate a very lean and efficient volunteer organization. We hope you and your friends will consider a membership in SEAMEC, if you do not already have one. Memberships start at $25 and certainly more is appreciated. As a SEAMEC member you are entitled to vote at annual meetings & will receive mailed copies of our candidate ratings. We have also started a business sponsorship plan; contact us for details regarding this. Kindly make checks payable to SEAMEC & send them to us at the address below.
* Thank you for your support of SEAMEC's mission to fully inform voters on how candidates stand on GLBT issues, thereby empowering our community.
