About King County Seniors Online
This is our newly formatted web site, which has been running since September 1997. It
is the only independent Network Resource for older residents in Seattle and King County.
According to the latest estimates of the Area Aging and Disability Agency, there are about
233,000 'senior' residents living in this region. Unofficial estimates figure that about
6% own and or use computers and use the Internet today, with a growth rate figured at 5% a
year, so that by the year 2002 it will be about 20%. This applies only to private
ownership! When internet labs are installed in all accessible senior sites, the numbers
will increase significantly. (Please see demographics on our linked pages.) We are working
closely with the Seattle Public Library Senior Computer program and expect to be working
with the University of Washington in the near future.
Our Mission Statement
"To serve the senior population living in Seattle/King County and through the medium of the Internet to make living here easier. And, to encourage the exchange of ideas, opinions, experiences and knowledge to help us get more out of life."
One of our goals is to see that every senior center, SPICE site and other community resource has at least one Internet linked computer dedicated to the interests of older people.
