We are a small, non-profit who has just hired its first full-time staff person/director. We have been around for 15 years, but have been very "low-tech" until recently, and would like to make a website that will serve to inform, educate, encourage, and energize!
We also could use assistance with data base development, and would welcome other suggestions to broaden and strengthen our base of support in Oregon and beyond.
I think the scope of our project is actually quite discrete. We DO have the
need/desire for a user-friendly data base of our members which would enable
us to: 1) have a more organized and accurate mailing list for our
publications 2) group and access our contacts and members according to
various criteria, such as donations made annually, faith group, past
participation in activities, etc. 3) mobilize those who have demonstrated an
interest/commitment to show up at protests, etc. with minimal notice into an
"urgent action" group. Those are some preliminary thoughts there. We have
about 500 to 600 contacts but are currently in the process of paring that
down dramatically as we seek to discern who among that massive list is really
invested in staying connected with our organization.
Secondly, the website I think is also a manageable undertaking given the
time-frame of the project. We are also collaborating with a terrific
community coalition of labor, religious, and peace and justice groups on an
exciting BIG event for next summer called The Walk for Farmworker Justice.
We would love to be able to have some relationship between these websites;
develop one for us and a link to one for the Walk? These are just some
ideas. We don't anticipate having a very complex page: something that
informs about OFWM, provides links to other farmworker justice sites,
articles/publications (?), graphics/photos, interaction of some kind??

To broaden and deepen religious support for farmworker justice in Oregon and beyond. To have a great website that will be a place for people to seek information, theological reflection, breaking news, spiritual sustenance in the movement, etc! To be abl
e to mobilize our resources (people!) with greater agility and effectiveness.
Cross-cultural exposure, experience in assisting a low-budget non-profit with lofty goals, timely and useful (hopefully!) feedback, a range of experience in social justice movements, support and encouragement, great appreciation for the relationship we es
tablish.
Indirectly, this website and other related projects could certainly contribute to the movement for farmworker justice in Oregon and beyond. We have a good working relationship with the farmworker union here, PCUN (Pineros y Campesinos Unidos del Noroeste ) and such exposure might prove fruitful to Evergreen students as we are an interesting collaboration of religious, justice, and labor movements.
