Wannabe Farmers is a not-for-profit, educational group founded in Seattle, Washington (see History) whose purpose is to learn the basics of organic farming and direct marketing through reading, discussion and hands-on practice. We are strong supporters of local farms and also work to promote agriculture in our region.
Currently, our main projects are:
1) At two locations we are growing vegetables, flowers and herbs for sale at local farmers' markets
and for our small CSA (Community Supported Agriculture),
2) We organize a book reading group which meets regularly to discuss works relevant to learning the
basics of organic agriculture and
3) We provide workshops and printed resources related to organic farming.
Wannabe Farmers
is an open membership group. We have planning meetings and, during the growing season, people
carpool to the farm sites at least once a week. As most of us expect to be off farming in some capacity
next year, we need new people with the same interest to carry on the project.
We expect the rewards of this project will be the experience and knowledge gained through its implementation. Proceeds from all sales will be rolled back into the group fund for future expenses.
