Wedgwood Outdoor Cinema
Frequently Asked Questions

  1. What is the Wedgwood Outdoor Cinema? An annual WCC event to bring the community together for some fun and to give back to our community. This free event is made possible by sponsorship from local businesses, organizations and volunteers. Contributions to the Wedgwood Community Council are welcome to support all of our events. See photos from the 2007 cinema!

  2. When is the Outdoor Cinema? This one-time summer event falls on the second Saturday night of July.

  3. When does the movie start? The event officially begins at 7:30pm. We start the film as soon as it's dark enough to see and enjoy the movie. July sunsets are about 9pm so anticipate a start time shortly after 9:30pm.

  4. Where is the event held? The south end of the playground at Thornton Creek School (formerly named AE2/Decatur Elementary School) located at 7711 43rd Avenue NE.

  5. Are there pre-movie activities? Activities typically include a piñata, a water balloon toss, face painting and an all-ages limbo contest. Enjoy visits from a clown and from our local fire station #40. Local organizations and merchants have booths to share information about their products and services. There are also various raffles and giveaways!

  6. How is the movie selected? An on-line movie poll presents 5 genres of movie candidates that are family-friendly and less than 2 hours in duration. Look for the poll in April to vote for your movie pick on www.scn.org/wcc!

  7. Will food & beverages be available? Thanks to our generous partners, Metropolitan Market, for treating us to hot dogs and ice cream, while Varlamos offers up hot calzones. Iced beverages are compliments of Starbucks and Café Van Gogh. Fresh popped popcorn is available to purchase with net proceeds benefiting our community.

  8. What are the seating arrangements? We recommend movie-watchers bring low back chairs, blankets or bean bags. Seating is first come, first served on the playgrounds. Bring a blanket and a flashlight!

  9. How can I get involved? Contact Helen Yee (wedgwoodecho@gmail.com) or Brian Turnbull (brianturnbull72@msn.com) about ways to participate. Volunteers are welcome! We encourage movie-goers to bring canned and/or non-perishable food to donate to the Ronald McDonald House. (HomeStreet Bank collects the donations at their booth and at their Bank.)

  10. How do I become a sponsor? Submit a completed sponsorship form by the deadline (May 31) and enclose payment to the WCC at P.O. Box 15770 Seattle, WA 98115. By contributing to the Wedgwood Community Council, you are helping us to build our community into a greater place to live, play and work. Plus, participating in the biggest event of Wedgwood is really fun and you reap the benefits of promoting your organization or business. (Sponsorship is not tax-deductible.)

  11. Where can I park my vehicle? Street parking is recommended around the perimeter of the school. Parking on the Playfield is reserved for sponsor/participants who plan to stay through the entire event when movie-goers are clear from the playfield.

  12. What if it rains (real rain!)? The event will be held in the Thornton Creek School gymnasium. Capacity will be limited to (X) attendees.

  13. Can I bring my dog? Yes, so long as it is kid-friendly and isn't weary of crowds. The dog should be leashed and of course cleaned up after.
