Seattle Department of Transportation - Making Progress In Wedgwood!

August 15, 2005

While battles continue to rage on regarding other major transportation projects within Seattle, the Seattle department of Transportation (SDOT) has recently begun work to improve the condition of the major arterial roads which service our community, which will vastly improve our conditions in Wedgwood once complete in the Fall of 2006.

Construction began recently on the first part of the project on NE 75th Street, between 20th and 35th Ave NE, to replace many of the deteriorated and crumbling concrete sections of the road.

The complete scope of the funded $8 million dollar project will include:

  • Resurfacing all the asphalt NE 65th Street from I-5 East to 35th Ave NE.

  • Resurfacing both asphalt and concrete on 35th Ave NE from NE 55th to NE 75th Streets.

  • Complete resurfacing of NE 75th Street between Roosevelt Way NE and 20th Ave NE, as well as between 35th Ave NE and 45th Ave NE.

  • Improvement of 8 miles of sidewalk.

  • Upgrade of 24 traffic signals.

  • Upgrade of storm water retention vaults.

Wedgwood will soon be realizing the benefits of this project which are intended to improve traffic flow and pedestrian safety; improve emergency vehicle response; provide real time traffic cameras; reduce storm water pollution, and; enhance the street aesthetics of Wedgwood and its connecting neighborhoods.

While we will be experiencing short term traffic delays and detours, the long term benefits will continue to make Wedgwood one the best neighborhoods in Seattle.

Additional project information, updates and timelines can be found at www.seattle.gov/transportation/nearterialproject.htm. The Project Manager, Sandra Woods, may also be contacted at 206-684-5298 or email at Sandra.Woods@seattle.gov.
