Seattle Sites of the Day:

Rufino F. Cacabelos

"My father, Rufino F. Cacabelos, wrote his autobiography in 1992. We are featuring it on this page because it is not only the story of how the Cacabelos family came to America, it is a first-hand account of Filipino immigration to the United States during the 1920's. ... He wrote this story for our family, and we welcome you to read his words. It's a wonderful view of life. Please enjoy it."

Center for the Child Care Workforce: Worthy Wages

"Average Wages - Preschool Teachers: $9.49, Child Care Workers: $7.30."

In Seattle, "Worthy Wages worked in partnership with a local union to launch the Child Care Union Project. As of September 1999 the joint contract between twelve small child care centers is in its final stages."

Procession of The Species Celebration

"As a spectacular addition to the Olympia Spring Arts Walk - community members don homemade masks and costumes, carrying flags, streamers, giant puppets, and inventive musical instruments. You will find us joyously dancing through the streets of downtown Olympia to the infectious beats of Samba, African drumming, Indonesian bamboo rattles, drums, and jazz music. Unlike a regimented parade, at times the Procession participants and onlookers meld into one... Registration fee: 2 cans of food on the day of the Procession to the Thurston County Food Bank."

Sat Apr 15, 6:30 PM in downtown Olympia.
