West Seattle Helpline

"The next Community Meal will be held on Sunday, April 30, at the Admiral Congregational Church... to volunteer at any of our monthly meals for 2000, contact the Helpline."

West Seattle's "food and beverage pros are planning a spectacular evening in support of the Helpline. The gala event will be held on Thursday, May 11, 2000 at The Hall at Fauntleroy, 9131 California Avenue SW. The festivities will begin at 6:30 p.m. and run until about 9:30." Tickets are $35.

UCUC Sounding Board

"The UCUC Sounding Board is a monthly forum for discussing issues related to implementing the UCUC Neighborhood Plan... We meet at 5:30 p.m. on the third Thursday of every month, at the University Heights Center for the Community, 5031 University Way NE, Seattle, Washington.

Northwest Folklife Festival

"For the past 29 years, volunteers have helped make the Northwest Folklife Festival one of the largest and most culturally diverse festivals in the country. By signing up to volunteer you can join in the fun, meet interesting people, and help keep the Festival free to 200,000 annual attendees from all walks of life. ... Volunteering as a group is a team-builder, a great way to support the arts, and a lot of fun."

Voice of Roma

"The primary objectives and purposes of this corporation shall be to organize, promote, and provide educational and charitable projects for and about Roma. Our goal is to provide Roma, with a special emphasis on the inclusion of Romani women, with a voice, in their local communities, as well as nationally and internationally. We will do this through programs such as the following:
- cultural exchange events
- educational forums for the general public concerning the history and current plight of the Roma
- media projects involving heightening awareness of Romani issues and including Romani participation in the media
- health and educational services for Romani women and children
- intra and inter-ethnic conflict resolution services
- empowerment through economic development
- community organization and institution-building programs
- immigration and refugee assistance programs
- humanitarian aid programs
- other human rights and legal assistance programs"
