Friends of Marymoor Park
   Member User Groups

"The Friends of Marymoor Park is a group of users and neighbors of Marymoor Park who meet regularly... and help enhance and better utilize the facilities and programs within the park. There are a tremendous number of activities going on at Marymoor Park..."

"Next Meeting: Wednesday, April 26, 7:00 PM. Call 206-205-8751 for more information. Everyone Welcome!"

"We are actively seeking new members, including any individuals who simply enjoy the park."

Rudy Brueggemann
   Farm Worker Housing

"The seasonal workers -- almost all from Mexico -- live in temporary shelters built from discarded cardboard and blue plastic tarps. Some workers live in their cars, and a few in tents."

"In response to the housing crisis, the state stepped in and constructed the La Esperanza housing complex in 1999. Comprised of 26 converted cargo containers, the clean facilities provide cheap, temporary shelter for farm worker families who pay about $10 a day. But... 60 percent of the state's migrant workforce, more than 37,000 mostly Spanish-speaker men and women, are homeless during the growing season..."

"Guadalupe Gamboa, the Sunnyside-based regional representative for the United Farm Workers of America, said the proposed rules still promote substandard housing for the workers, adding, that 'cherry tent camp rules allow for the housing of families in cherry orchards that are heavily sprayed with dangerous organophosphates.'"
