Soul Festival '00

Friday, July 14 to Sunday, July 16 at Rainier Beach High School Playfield

MLK, Jr. / John Stanford Unity Parade - Saturday, July 15 from 12:00 - 2:00 pm

"Soul Festival 2000 is a non-profit event celebrating the art and culture of African Americans.

"Last year Soul Fest '99 housed over 50 vendors, dozens of carnival rides, local and national live entertainment, and more importantly raised thousands of dollars in scholarship money for college-bound youth.

"... we're back this year for yet another year of entertainment, fun, and cultural unity for everyone."

Seattle Peace Concerts
   Taste of Soul, Saturday

Saturday and Sunday, July 15-16 - Noon to 6:00 p.m. at Gas Works Park

Taste of Soul Festival and BBQ Cookoff. Free concerts. Please bring canned food for Northwest Harvest. Proceeds from food vending goes to Childhaven.

Community Coalition for Police Accountability

Community Forum
Thursday, July 20 at 7:00 p.m.
Mt. Zion Baptist Church

Directions to Mt. Zion Baptist Church

A community forum to educate residents on the procedures necessary for establishing an effective Independent Police Review Board.

A dialogue between the community and two national experts who have set up successful review boards in other cities.

Help us figure out how we might improve community relations between the Seattle and King County Police Departments and the people they serve, particularly those who reside in ethnic minority communities.

Topics include: Should citizen representatives be appointed or elected?
