Neighbornets Network

Neighbornets! 2000 and U-District Share Fair

Saturday, Sept 9, 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. at Tallmadge Hamilton House, University Senior Activity Center, 5225 15th Ave. NE.

Bus routes 48, 70, 71, 72, 73, 74.

"'Neighbornets' are affinity groups of people who live in the same general neighborhood who choose to form closer bonds with one another.

"... neighbornets are closely related to intentional communities... unlike most other intentional communities, while the members live in the same 'part of town,' they do not need to live in the same building, next door to each other, or even on the same block. It is convenient if members of a neighbornet live very close to one another but it is not necessary. ...

"Neighbornets are not a substitute for other types of neighborhood organizations such as community councils and neighborhood associations. The focus of neighbornets is on activities among the members, not on providing services to the neighborhood as a whole... Because most neighbornets do not involve all members of a neighborhood, neighbornets do not 'speak for' the neighborhood.

1:00 p.m. - Share Fair: Share information about your Neighbornet or neighborhood organization. Connect with others interested in sharing resources, skills, housing, rides, interests, needs and friendship.

2:00 - 3:00 p.m. - Piano and Singing featuring Suzie Grey.

3:00 - 4:00 p.m. - Panel Discussion with Jamal Rahman, co-founder of the Circle of Love Neighbornet, Janet Worthen, founder of the 35th Avenue Neighbornet in Lake Forest Park, and Linda Redman, member of the Rainier Valley Rainbow Neighbornet.

4:00 - 5:00 p.m. - Connect up by 'neighborhood.'

Free. Info: Steve Habib Rose habib@thegarden.net or (206) 721-0217.

Seattle Metropolitan Elections Committee

"SEAMEC is a non-partisan civic organization that rates candidates running for political and judicial office in Seattle, King County, and the State of Washington. SEAMEC evaluates candidates on their knowledge of, record of proven activism for, and commitment to the concerns of the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered (GLBT) communities..."

"On Primary Night, Tues, Sept. 19, join SEAMEC in watching the election returns at Bill's Off Broadway (Harvard and Pine, Capitol Hill), and for $10, enjoy a spaghetti dinner, proceeds of which will benefit SEAMEC. If you're in Snohomish County, join SNOMEC for an election-return party and fundraiser at The Underground in Everett (1212 California)."

SNOMEC - Snohomish County Elections Committee

"SNOMEC... interviews and rates candidates running for political office in Snohomish and Island Counties...

"In this, SNOMEC's second year of interviewing political candidates on gay issues, we are rating candidates for the State Legislature in five districts all or partially in Snohomish and Island Counties and also candidates for the U.S. Congress from the 2nd District of Northwest Washington.

"Additional ratings for candidates in the 1st Legislative District and the 1st Congressional District, which overlap both King and Snohomish Counties, and for statewide races are available on the SEAMEC site."

Municipal League of King County

"This year, three citizen committees (East King, South King, and North/Central) have evaluated candidates for the Washington State Legislature from King County districts. Candidate interviews and ratings were completed during August and ratings are now available...

"Ballot Issue Reports... The League only takes a position on measures that will have a significant impact on King County, and the effective operation of government. A 2/3 supermajority is required to take a position, so in many cases, the League's position is 'No Position.' But in any case, the Ballot Issue Reports are presented for your information."
