Washington Toxics Coalition
WTC Analysis of Dept. of Ecology Draft Plan

Community Coalition for Environmental Justice

Thursday, October 12, 7:00 p.m. at Town Hall, 1119 8th Ave (Corner of 8th & Seneca).

Public Hearing, State Dept. of Ecology

"In 1998, the Locke Administration announced an initiative to eliminate persistent bioaccumulative toxics (PBTs) such as dioxins, mercury and pentachlorophenol in the environment. ...

"While Ecology's draft action plan has some good elements, overall, it is weak and does not contain specific details on how it will actually achieve elimination.

"If industry giants such as Georgia Pacific, Weyerhauser, the incinerator company Ogden Martin and others have their way, Ecology's final draft won't have the real teeth it needs to really eliminate persistent toxic releases to the air, water or land.

"... Ecology's plan also confirms that exposure to PBTs has been linked to a wide range of toxic effects in fish, wildlife, and humans, including effects on the nervous system, reproductive and developmental problems, immune-response suppression, cancer, and hormone disruption.

"Let Ecology know that we want the state to undertake real, concrete actions now that will end PBT pollution.

"Please meet at CCEJ (105 14th Ave. Suite 2-C, 14th & Yesler, Urban League Bldg.) at 5:30pm to rehearse how we will make our presence known at this important meeting. Contact Yalonda if you are interested in attending. (206) 720-0285."
