Friends of Street Ends

"Seattle is home to dozens of tiny shoreline public access points,
treasures in our city's shoreline program, and a long-kept secret in many of
our neighborhoods.
"... When Seattle's streets were originally laid out back in the late 1800s,
they were simply draped over the landscape, ignoring the idiosyncrasies of
our city and its many bodies of water. As a result, this has created 140
'street ends' that dead-end on the waterfronts of Lake Washington, the
Duwamish River, the Ship Canal, Lake Union and Puget Sound.
"... many have been neglected, overgrown with brambles or appropriated by
adjacent property owners. ... A volunteer organization called Friends of
Street Ends formed to work with community groups to open and improve these
tiny areas for access to the water by neighbors."
Seattle Union Record
Pacific Northwest Newspaper Guild

Newspaper Guild members at the Seattle Times and Seattle P-I are on strike
for higher wages, primarily for lower paid circulation and ad workers. Under
the Times/P-I joint operating agreement, most non-editorial employees work
for a combined management run by The Times. Teamsters Local 174, whose
members distribute papers, are also on strike.
Guild reporters from both papers are publishing their own daily newspaper,
the Seattle Union Record, to compete with the thinner-than-usual Times and
P-I.

Legal Observer Training for WTO Anniversary

the WTO anniversary. With the police rattling their swords it's clear there
need to be many trained observers. The presence of trained observers may

have also helped some wrongly arrested people in court."
