"WPSR presents 'Nuclear Nightmare and Hope: Siberian Nuclear Contamination and Impacts on Global Health,' a dramatic forum by Dr. Tom Carpenter who traveled to Siberia to examine nuclear facilities twice this year, working with a Russian / American team, documenting what appears to be the largest discharge of nuclear contaminants into the environment anywhere on the planet.

"Dr. Carpenter, director of the Government Accountability Project in Seattle, will focus on global health impacts of release and remediation.

Washington Citizens for Proportional Representation

Thursday, December 7, 6:30 p.m. at Seattle Public Library in the U. District, NE 50th St. and Roosevelt Way.

"Discussion about...

- Replacing Washington state's winner-take-all method for allocating Electors for President with a simple statewide percentage of the popular vote.

- Requesting the Legislature of Florida, if they meet in special session, to choose their Electors proportionately (12 for Gore, 12 for Bush, and 1 for Nader), to reflect the vote of all the people.

- Ending the unnecessary and undemocratic use of any kind of primary in Washington and allowing all political parties to choose their own method of nominating candidates to appear on the November ballot.

- Planning for a statewide Initiative to the People to use Instant-Runoff Voting or Approval Voting for the statewide executive offices in the general election, so that people have a greater choice of candidates and that independents and new parties are able to be fairly elected.

- Ending the arbitrary legal distinction between 'major' and 'minor' parties, so that all political parties are treated equally.

- Combining Superior Court judge races in each county, rather than by 'Department' or position, so that 70% stop getting elected in July, and that the people get a chance to read about all the judges in the voter's pamphlet.

"There will also be copies of this year's House Bill 1534 and improved language for the House and Senate bills that will be introduced next year in January.

"The next meeting of the Legislative Action Working Group has yet to be called; please contact Megan Marks for information about LAWG activities and meeting agendas."

Seeking Community Organizations

"... Studio X and MicroRadio.net is a working exploration of what happens when you make local media global.

"Studio X is seeking community organizations interested in broadcasting their voices. Studio X is programming NEWS AND COMMUNITY VIEWS shows and we would like your organization to consider producing material to fill one of these time slots.

"This is an opportunity for your organization to expand current education and outreach efforts, to gain experience in broadcasting, and to join others in expanding the public's access to local, independent media.

"There are several social change movements within our local community and we hope that Studio X and the MicroRadio Network can make a connection between what is happening here (in Seattle and the West Coast) and elsewhere (national and international)."

Broadcasting a Micropower Neighborhood FM Signal
