Memorial Service for Nancy Kunitsugu

Aki Namioka (left) and Nancy Kunitsugu (right)
It is with great sadness that the Seattle Community Network
Association mourns the passing of Nancy Kunitsugu (nancyk).
Nancy was one of those rare volunteers who brought a
combination of intelligence, diligence, hard work and humor to
the SCN project. She was a long time volunteer from the early days,
a board member, and our second President.
Nancy was introduced to our project by Ken Gillgren,
another early supporter of the project. Her lack of ego, and ability to
communicate with everyone, made her ideal for the role of Volunteer
Coordinator.
Through her hard work, SCN became more than just a technology - it truly
became a "community network" as more and more grassroots groups and
organizations were able to put their information online. It was through
Nancy's cadre of volunteers that we were able to provide meaningful content
to SCN users.
Nancy joined the early Coordinating Council and later the Board
of Directors as SCN transitioned from a project of CPSR/Seattle
to its own non-profit organization, the Seattle Community
Network Association. She served as SCNA's first Vice-President
and then President the following year.
Through all this her warmth, wicked sense of humor and commitment kept us
going. We can honestly say that SCN would not be where it is today if it
weren't for Nancy. We will miss her dearly.

Aki's note tells the story - Nancy's warmth, *wicked sense of humor*
and dedication were some of our most solid - and reliable - resources
in the early days of building SCN. Nancy was ALWAYS there - always
building and planning and moving things forward.
- Doug Schuler
We've been given updated information about the memorial service - it will
be happening this Sunday, 12/10, starting at 12:30. Check in at the
Arboretum's Graham Visitor's Center for directions to the exact location.
Thoughts & memories about having volunteered with Nancy can be sent to
feedback@scn.org.
Also, Nancy's family have established a memorial fund to donate books to
the school Nancy was a librarian in. If you'd like to make a donation,
checks should be sent to:
Nancy Kunitsugu Memorial Book Fund
P.O. Box 3205
Renton, WA 98056-3205
For anyone who knew her, this comes as quite a blow. We'll hope to see
you on Sunday.
- Melissa & Steve Guest
Goodbye Dear Friend
I will miss your gentle spirit and supportive nature. You were one of a
kind and fair to those who crossed your path. SCN is only one of the
organizations that benefited from your persevering work in human and
social justice.
Thank you <nancyk@scn.org>

"... Studio X and MicroRadio.net is a working

"Studio X is seeking community organizations interested in broadcasting
their voices. Studio X is programming NEWS AND COMMUNITY VIEWS shows
and we would like your organization to consider producing material to
fill one of these time slots.
"This is an opportunity for your organization to expand current education
and outreach efforts, to gain experience in broadcasting, and to join others
in expanding the public's access to local, independent media.
"There are several social change movements within our local community and we
hope that Studio X and the MicroRadio Network can make a connection between
what is happening here (in Seattle and the West Coast) and elsewhere
(national and international)."
