"They just are finishing voting, have a 95% voter turnout, and will get
results of the vote at the week's end. Reports are that the mood there is
very celebratory. The choices were for 'independence,' 'autonomy' and
perhaps neither. The assumption is that with the celebratory mood, the
voting will be overwhelmingly for independence. Earlier episodes of violence
apparently intended to dissuade voting had obviously failed, and there were
few, if any, reports of violence.
I believe that the history of the place is that Indonesia invaded the
former Portuguese colony. In asserting its authority, the
Indonesians killed 1/3 of the East Timor population."

"Spurred by the active involvement of one of our e-mail training
people who is from Turkey, ... I encourage SCNA members to consider
contributing to the earthquake relief fund for Turkey. ... (any
amount will help). There is a Washington Mutual account that was set
up for the Turkish Earthquake relief. This was set up by a Boeing
engineer who is from Turkey."

"I don't know if this website has been in the list before. The
local site I recommend to Seattle sites of the week is
http://www.seattlesidewalk.com. It is my favorite local web
site. It tells you everything happening in Seattle."
