"Have you had a chance to look at what they've been doing? I saw
a couple of them racing around on the big day and hope they got
some good footage.
"I think they were trying to get some shots of the
Raging Grannies
defying a line of police in riot gear today -- but were
chased off by some very threatening cops swinging batons...
totally uncalled for. We were a group of about 50 -- nearly all
women -- and were told we could have NO signs and must be
totally silent. The Grannies, bless their hearts, began to sing
We Shall Overcome, which seemed to cause great uneasiness. It
was not a chant or a slogan, but it was not silence either. We
stood holding hands for about ten minutes and then filed back to
First Methodist Church. Quite a few people came to stand with
us. They mostly hummed."
