12th Annual Seattle Gymanfa Ganu and Grand Concert --A Slice of the '99
National
The Seattle Welsh Choir presents its 12th annual Gymanfa Ganu at 2:30pm
on Sunday, October 10, at the Lake City Presbyterian Church, 3841 NE 123rd
Street, Seattle. This Gymanfa Ganu will be special, coming as it does close
on the heels of the 1999 North American Gymanfa Ganu ("The National"),
with many choristers from the first North American Welsh Choir (Cor Cymry
Gogledd America) expected to participate, and led by the director of that
Choir, Ms. Mari Morgan. It will be preceded on Saturday night, October
9th, by a Grand Concert, featuring Mari Morgan and many North American
Welsh Choir singers. This will be held at the Prince of Peace Lutheran
Church, N. 145th St. & 20th Ave NE, at 5PM on Saturday.

Q: WHAT is a Gymanfa Ganu ?

A: A full session of community congregational singing in four-part harmony.
The gymanfa will typically include fifteen to twenty hymns, in both English
& Welsh.Special music is often also performed by virtuoso soloists
with regional or even international reputations.
Seattle Welsh Choir - Christmas Concert, December 5th, 1999
The Seattle Welsh Choir will hold their annual Christmas Concert at 2:30PM
on Sunday, December 5, 1999. This event has grown in scope and popularity
over the past few years in the Seattle area. It will feature readings
drawn from "A Child's Christmas in Wales" by Welsh author/playwright Dylan
Thomas, and carols and hymns drawn from all eras of Welsh musical tradition.
Admission charge is nominal -- tickets will be available from any chorister
or the choir manager.
Pacific Northwest Welsh Weekend
The ninth annual Pacific Northwest Welsh Weekend happened April 17-18 in
Tacoma, WA. Events included Noson Lawen, Welsh Marketplace, Welsh language
lessons, Welsh folk-dancing, Ysgol Gan (singing school), Grand Concert,
PNWGGA Annual Meeting, and a Gymanfa Ganu (songfest).
The tradition of the Pacific Northwest Welsh Weekend originated here
in Seattle, in 1991.
The next Welsh Weekend will be held in Victoria, B.C., in May of 2000.
Welsh Concert - May 13th
A special concert was held on May 13th, 1998,
featuring the music of the Mari Morgan and Eluned Jones, Elinor Bennett,
and Cor Cymraeg -- The Seattle Welsh Choir. The concert presented
Welsh and other music, including choral, vocal solos and duets, and harp
numbers to an enthusiastic audience.
