- Concert Spirituel
-
Concert Spirituel performs chamber music from the 16th through the early
19th centuries on period instruments. The 1997-1998 season opens with
four free twilight performances, one each Sunday evening in September,
in the Rose Garden at Woodland Park. Listeners are encouraged to wander
about the park and enjoy the blooming roses and flutist Jeffrey Cohan's
performances of Jacob van Eyck's Variations on Favorite Melodies of the
Early 17th Century.

- Federal Way Philharmonic

The Orchestra's 1997/98 concert season gets
under way with Pops concerts on Saturday and Sunday, September 13 and 14.
Eight more performances follow throughout the fall, winter and spring. The
members of the Federal Way Philharmonic are 75 freelance professional
musicians from King and Pierce counties, under the direction of
A. Brian Davenport.

- Fear of Flying Clinic

The Fear of Flying Clinic is a nonprofit, public service organization. Its
volunteer staff consists of commercial aviation pilots, FAA personnel,
members of the International Organization of Women Pilots (Ninety Nines),
employees of major airlines, and clinic graduates. A fee is charged to cover
the clinic's expenses. The Clinic's program helps you understand your fear
and help you deal with it. A licensed counselor will help to control (and
dissolve) your fear of flying. This is supported by honest discussion
throughout the course of the clinic. When you complete the course, you'll be
on your way to greater relaxation and enjoyment of flying.

- University District Farmers Market

Over 40 Washington state farmers and food producers bring the greatest
variety of locally grown produce available in the Seattle area. The Farmers
Market is open every Saturday until November 1st, from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM at
University Way and NE 50th St. Master Gardeners, Seattle Tilth and P-Patch
experts are on hand to help with gardening questions.
- Toys for Tots

The 1997 Toys for Tots campaign hopes to bring Christmas cheer to many local
kids. This year's toy drive is now in the planning stages. In the coming
weeks this Web page will have information about this year's coordinators,
toy drop-off sites and Toys for Tots events.

- Sand Point Veterans Coalition

The Coalition is an umbrella organization representing the common interests
of over two dozen non-profit veterans' groups in Washington State. It
provides employment services, retraining and rehabilitation services,
substance abuse and other counseling services, youth programs, Native
American and women's veteran services, Toys for Tots facilities, meeting
places for veterans' groups, a credit union and many other services all in a
single 'one stop' service center.

Do you own $1,000 worth of a corporation's stock? Have you owned it for a
year? Then you can file a shareholder resolution. Here you can find
information on and examples of shareholder resolutions, rules of the
Securities and Exchange Commission, information on Washington corporations,
mutual funds and related Web sites.
For example, several Boeing shareholders introduced this
1997 Shareholder
Proposal on Doing Business with China:
RESOLVED: shareholders request the Board to adopt, by January 1, 1998, basic
human rights criteria for its business operations in and/or with the
Peoples' Republic of China. Requesting shareholders shall be notified of
these principles and how Boeing intends to implement them by July 1, 1998.

SCN is offering free Web home pages on our server to registered users, on a
test basis. The features offered are quite limited. (My typing fingers are
getting tired from typing "no" in the Web Page FAQ.) To sign up, please

- Seattle Canoe and Kayak Club
-
SCKC is a non-profit organization that works with the City of Seattle to
promote canoe and kayak instruction, education and competition. The boat
house is located at the City's Greenlake Small Crafts Center on the
southwest shore of Green Lake in north Seattle. Join SCKC every Tuesday
night for the Duck Island Challenge. Equipment is available free of charge.
All you have to do is show up at 6:15 at the Boat House.

- Engineering and Science in K-12 Classrooms

The Engineering and Science Resource Bureau is an association of about 160
engineers in almost every known specialty, many of them retired, who
donate science, math and technology assistance to any K-12 teachers in the
Puget Sound area who request it. On average, each possesses about forty
years of skilled engineering practice and technical knowledge. ESRB's
members are highly motivated to pass this along to the next generation of
scientists and engineers. ESRB also provides free educational science kits,
and helps with teacher training in cooperation with educators' groups such
as the Science Teachers Association.

Seattle's CDS chapter includes academic researchers as well as people who
work in government and private social work agencies, many of whom focus on
improving the conditions of life and health in
urban neighborhoods.
CDS members have put together a guide to finding employment in
CD-related jobs,
which is also a starting point for general job searches.

Seattle NOW will hold its monthly meeting on Tuesday, June 24 at 7:00 PM, in
Room 1110 at Seattle Central Community College. During the meeting, Jonnae
Tillman will host a forum called "Girls' Empowerment."
The Leonard Peltier Support Group will hold its 22nd Anniversary Memorial
Potluck and Video Showing of Warrior: The Life and Times of Leonard
Peltier at the Daybreak Star Indian Cultural Center on Thursday, June
26th from 6:00 to 10:00 PM. See the NOW page for more information.

- Port Angeles Journal Online
- The Journal is an alternative source of news for the North Olympic
Peninsula. It's available free by e-mail. Each week, the Journal reports on
what's happening at the Port, at City Hall, in Clallam County government and
with local businesses. The Journal focuses on the quality of education in
School District 121 and on events at Peninsula College. It features local
sports news, a seasonal tourist section, classified ads, editorials and
letters to the editor.

- University Community Urban Center
- UCUC will host a Community Workshop on Tuesday, June 10 from 4:00 to 8:00
PM at the United Congregational Church, 16th Avenue NE and NE 45th St. UCUC
committee members, consultants and people from all parts of the community
will choose preferred options for managing the University District's urban

- Wallingford's pages present a brief history of the area around the Gas
Works, and invite local residents to contribute more information to the
neighborhood's new Web site.
- Seattle Area Employment Guide
- SCN's Employment Guide includes information about finding a job in
Seattle and Washington state. You can look up job hotlines, online newspapers
with help wanted ads, public employers like King County and the UW, private
companies, temp agencies specializing in several fields, non-profit agencies
who need volunteers, and more. It includes a couple of good guides to writing
a resume. We've added this page because of requests from SCN members.

Seattle's OWL chapter meets Saturday, June 7 from 9:45 to noon at the
Council House Roof Room at 1501 17th Ave (near Madison). 11th District state
legislator Eileen Cody will speak on "The Impact of the Legislative Session
on Health Care Issues and What Needs to Happen in the Future." A discussion
will follow. Call 781-6679 if you need a ride. The OWL Annual Picnic is
Saturday, July 12 starting at noon, at Woodland Park's Shelter 7.
