Welcome to the 2000 Summer International Workcamps

SCI IVS USA supports the instant information without borders of the internet and you will find our worldwide camp listing down below. However, you must know that many national offices depend you paying a donation for this camp info to help sustain their non-profit operations. In many cases countless volunteers took precious time from their lives to translate this info into your home language.

If you are not in the US or Canada, we sincerely ask you to respect your language and culture by going through your office to get this info. At the very least, you should contact and send to your office their camp info donation fee before you decide to access the information at this web site. Also, your office may have special projects worldwide for you to join which are not listed here. Remember, every volunteer must apply for camps through their national office.

If you want an instant way to donate be sure to specify clearly your country and language on the online form so that SCI IVS USA can forward any funds correctly. Note that some states do have restrictions on "solicitation of charitable contributions" so please acknowledge that SCI IVS USA does not claim a legal status beyond being a 501(c)(3) non-profit, registered in the State of Washington. Donate securely online.

Practical things you must keep in mind:

  • We do not want to discriminate against volunteers without internet access and so there is no first-come-first-serve between now and the second week of April.
  • Therefore, we cannot confirm your placement into a camp until after the second week in April.
  • When you fill out an application please be aware that when there are more applicants than open places, we will have to make a competitive judgment based on how you described yourself in your application.
  • Please don't ask us if there are "opennings" between now and mid April since everything is open.
  • You need to understand that most workcamps are composed of a multi-national group which means that generally only one or two Americans or Canadians can be accommodated in each camp.
  • Remember that with each application you should list up to six projects in the order of your preference so that we can place you into at least one of those projects.
  • Also keep in mind that about four weeks before the start date of the camp, restrictions such as nationality and gender balance are dropped, and so anyone can be placed into a camp if there is availability.

Information is released in 'draft mode' so that we can spend time on the paper printed version to serve those without internet access.  If anything is unclear please remind us by email to sciinfo@sci-ivs.org

Note: more updates to come for camps that did not get sent out by this week. Pay attention to dates written in dd/mm or day/month format.

Also we have changed our fees for 2000, the SCI IVS USA application fee is $125 for most overseas camps.
