SCI International Voluntary Service
814 NE 40th
St , Seattle, WA 98105
Mission
and Purpose
Mission "Peace
through deeds, not words" has been our mission statement since
1920 when Service Civil International (SCI) founding members in
Europe conceived the concept of a workcamp as an alternative to
military service in the aftermath of the First World War. SCI believes
when groups of people from different countries are living and volunteering
together on a grassroots community service project, barriers between
them will decrease and international understanding will increase.
SCI attempts to promote greater understanding and tolerance throughout
the world through practical measures such as short term and long
term volunteer exchanges among all nations.
Purpose
SCI
supports the UNESCO Manifesto 2000 for a Culture of Peace and Non-violence
as a statement of purpose:

Programs Through various
non-commercial partner organizations worldwide and through SCI international,
national and regional branch development, the U.S. branch of SCI
participates in the SCI network which exchanges over 5,000 volunteers
each year in short term 2-4 week international group workcamps and
in long term 3-12 months volunteer postings in over 60 countries.
