SAMPLE LETTER: Identify a number of organizations who might be interested in building a "Culture of Peace and Nonviolence for the Children of the World." (Examples could include small social service agencies, peace groups, social concerns committees of local religious congregations, human rights groups, organizations supporting the well-being of children and other good prospects you'll think of in your own local community.) Reserve a room in a convenient location for a date three weeks or more in advance. Send a letter something like this. Follow up promptly with phone calls. Call again to remind them a few days in advance of the meeting.

The United Nations has declared 2001-2010 to be the International Decade for a Culture of Peace and Nonviolence for the Children of the World. Will you help make this dream a reality right here in Thurston County?

We are inviting you to join with dozens of other community groups to help reduce violence in all sorts of ways -- and replace it with a culture of nonviolence -- right here in Thurston County!

7:00 pm Hear a brief introduction

Generate creative ideas in a well facilitated meeting:

~ How would our local community be different if we spent 2001-2010

really focused on promoting nonviolence?

~ How could your organization or your sector of the community

practice and promote nonviolence?

~ What are our next steps?
