SEND PURE WATER CAMPAIGN
Note:
this campaign is suspended out of respect for the legitimate fears our legislators may feel due to the apparent use of the mail to send biohazardous materials to members of Congress. Please use other means to work for the safety of the civilians of Iraq.It is abhorrent that any person would send anthrax spores through the mail. It is equally abhorrent that children of Iraq are exposed to deadly bacteria in their water! U.S. foreign policy should not deny the 21 million people of Iraq access to clean water.
A large part of the suffering and death in Iraq stems from impure water. During the Persian Gulf War, water purification plants were damaged; since that time, Iraq has been unable to repair the water system. Even if the "smart" sanctions are adopted, water-borne diseases will continue to ravage the population..
This campaign was initiated by Mike Yarrow, Organizer, Western Washington Fellowship of Reconciliation, to end the economic sanctions killing 150 Iraqi children daily. The campaign was inspired by the thousands of small bags of rice sent to president Eisenhower, to ask for aid to famine-stricken China.
A BOTTLE of pure water, addressed to Rep. Jay Inslee, D-WA, 308 Cannon HOB, Washington D.C. 20515-0001. Rep. Inslee represents north King County including some of Seattle, and parts of Snohomish County. He has not (at the time of this writing) joined the 31 co-sponsors of H.R. 742.
A printed label urges an end to the sanctions; a blank label carries individual messages.

Bottles are packaged securely for mailing.

Logistics:
a clear, gallon size Reclosable Storage Bag (zipper lock type) measuring 10 9/16 x 11 inches can hold a water bottle with up to 24 oz water, although the larger bottles will need to be diagonal. Labels for "from" address, "to" address, generic "end the sanctions" message, and blank label for individual messages all can be written or printed on 2 x 4 inch shipping labels which come 10 to a sheet (Avery 5163, or Office Depot OD 1130, for example). Labels should be covered and reinforced with clear tape, and the closure of the bag also taped securely. Priority postage from Washington state to Washington D.C. costs $3.95 and will get our graphic message there in a couple of days! The generic "end the sanctions" message reads:
END THE SANCTIONS! Iraqis need clean water to live, and "smart sanctions" won’t provide that. Please support an end to the sanctions and also co-sponsor H.R. 742 or a Senate version of H.R.742.For information, contact
