Party Ideas

I'm having a party this year again. At my last party, a popular game was called "Spoons." It's kind of like musical chairs in concept, but all you need are spoons on the floor. The players kneel around the spoons in a circle. There is a spoon for each player minus one. One non-player is The Reader. The Reader has a book (I used How to Tell if You're Dead by Michelle Beaudry) from which she reads aloud. Whenever she gets to an agreed-upon word, one that frequently occurs, everyone grabs for a spoon. Each time, one player will be spoonless, and hence be "out." Keep playing til there is one winner, who gets a prize. But be warned, people might get hurt! :)

Here's an idea my cousin sent me:
During the party, go online so out-of-town friends and relatives can join in the fun. What a great idea! If you're interested, join the Undernet on IRC, and /message me. My nickname will be sheattle. The channel name will be announced.

Another thing I've done before is string up doughnuts and have a contest to see who can eat theirs the fastest--no hands allowed!

Something I'm going to try this year is a mask-decorating activity. I bought a bunch of eye masks (think Zorro) which we're going to decorate with glitter glue, sequins, cotton balls, whatever junk I have laying around. Also we're going to paint those little pumpkins, since my guests cannot be trusted with knives.

Some other new stuff I'm going to try is a game I thought up called Horrorscope. This I hope will get different people interacting. The premise is to find someone else with the same horoscope sign and try to come up with the funniest "Horrorscope." Best ones will be posted and prizes will be given.

If there's interest, I'm going to try an "add-a-sentence" ghost story which I'll tape record and see if it's any fun. I'll be playing scary music in the background to set the mood. It might be pretty amusing since I plan on getting everyone drunk.

If you're lucky enough to have a digital camera, take pictures of your guests and give them their photographs on disk. My digital camera isn't very good, but it's better than nothing unless someone brings a better one! (hint, hint to my boyfriend who's t hinking of buying one)

And I'm feeling brave this year so I'm going to have a Halloween Carol Sing-A-Long! I found some songs at http://www.swil.org/FILKS/Old_format/Halloween_Carols.txt and I printed them out.
