Keith Gormèzano's Poetry:
Rosh Hashanah 5738 in Iowa City, Iowa

Rosh Hashanah: 5738

On September 12, 1977,
953 Jews
in Iowa City, Iowa
came out of hibernation;
from the Unitarian church;
in rebellion from their non observant parents
from orthodox homes
and homes
where the birthday of the most famous Jew is still celebrated
and from hiding in fear in the invisible ashes of the Holocaust.

Out of the closet and
into the synagogue.

Here, there, everywhere.
Happy New Year 5738.
