Keith Gormèzano's Poetry: Out
(with apologies to Zenna Henderson, science-fiction author of The People books)

What would happen if children had the ability to travel between planets
the same way they could enter and exit each others' houses?

Zenna lifted herself from Earth,
with ease.

Soaring through the atomsphere
into the fiery coldness of blind space
past the glowing neutral moon,
stopping on Mars to buy a candy bar,
dropping in on her cousin on Jupiter
picking up a piece of Saturn's rings
for her kid brother.

Zenna returned as quickly as she left,
with ease.
"Where were you?" her mother asked.
"Out," she replied.
