Keith Gormèzano's Poetry:
Suicide Attempts of the Jewish People
We tried to do it
again and again
since Abraham.

At the Red Sea,
at Masada,
during the Inquisition,
in the camps,
converting and refusing to convert,
waiting to be shoved into the ovens,
becoming assimilated-intermarried North Americans,
making aliyah.

We chosen to try to end our agony,
again and again,
our shoulders heavy.

We'll never succeed
again and again.
