Keith Gormèzano's Poetry

  1. My Silver Star of David
My silver star of David glows in the darkness....

  2. Meeting
We stare at each other, faces glowing in the late afternoon sun on an unchanging, ageless, old quarter street.

  3. Rosh Hashanah 5738
On September 12, 1977, 953 Jews in Iowa City, Iowa came out of hibernation...

  4. Amidah (to be said standing)
Look Lord, look at my son Israel. The first free Jew in my family for so long.

  5. Your Lips, L'dodi
Your lips, l'dodi (my beloved), your coffee coolers full and rich with color like the wheat fields of Alberta...

  6. Out (with apologies to Zenna Henderson
What would happen if children had the ability to travel between planets the same way they could enter and exit each others' houses?

  7. Howling Wolf
In the cold north corner of my apartment, there is a howling wolf... made out of fishnet, imprisoned in my apartment...

  8. Ein Geidi Patrol
My Uzi bounces against my soft, green body, barrel still warm, very warm.

  9. Suicide Attempts of the Jewish People
We tried to do it again and again since Abraham. We'll never succeed.

  10. Who is a Jew?
The Knesset is debating futilely again, "Who is a Jew?" but I'm visiting Yad Vashem instead as the world's already decided for us.

  11. Cousin
Your grave with its white headstone is cool to my touch as we both glow our true colors in the warm twilight.

  12. Valentine Day's Card in ASCII
    84 111 32 109 121 32 86 97 108 101 110 116 105 110 101 32 119 105 116 104 32 108 118 101 46 33

  13. Chaver (Hebrew for friend), a revised version of the traditional prayer, Eshet Chayil
Traditionally, in a Jewish home, before the blessing for the wine is chanted on Friday evenings, a masculine partner would sing
the Eshet Chayil prayer for his feminine partner and their children. But today, with so many of us being single or childless,
what are our alternatives? Perhaps a prayer for our friends?

  14. Chaver, a shorter version of the above (edited by Shosh Westen)
A good friend is worth more than rubies or chocolate.
