Mission Statement
"Protecting our natural resources through education and action."

Our History

Cabinet Resource Group
(CRG) was formed in 1976
when people concerned
with the fate of the Kootenai
River, the Scotchman's
Peak proposed wilderness,
the Cabinet Mountains
Wilderness, and the Yaak
Valley came together to fight
for protection of these natural
resources. Since then,
members of CRG have
participated in countless
struggles to preserve
wild places and promote
sensible management of our
National Forest Lands

News
Posted 6/10/2002- On 3/30/02 the USFS rescinded it's Record of Decision permitting the proposed Rock Creek mine. This action was in response to the US Fish and Wildlife Service's (USF&WS) withdrawal of its Rock Creek Mine Biological Opinion.
In the face of a lawsuit filed by a coalition of conservation groups, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service withdrew its approval for the proposed Rock Creek Mine. The agency's action puts the proposed mine on hold while federal biologists reevaluate the project's threat to imperiled grizzly bears and bull trout.
This far from settles the issue. We anticipate the USF&WS will come out with a reinforced version of their previous biological opinion and the USFS will then re-issue their Record of Decision. Two state lawsuits and an administrative action against the mine are proceeding. CRGıs board pledged to help raise $10,000 towards the overall legal challenges. This is a polite reminder that CRG has a way to go to meet its goal. Your contributions are tax deductible. [Mailing address at bottom of page].
