Montana Environmental Information Center| As two friends walked down a path, they came upon a young man, seemingly able-bodied, who was struggling to cross a shallow stream. "Can you help me cross?", he asked. One of the two men stopped and carried him across the stream. They then parted ways. As the two colleagues continued down the path, the second man was troubled. He turned to his friend, and said, "I am bothered by what you did. That man looked strong. He could have crossed by himself. You should have let him solve his own problem." The other man answered, "I may have carried the man across the stream, but you have been carrying him on your back ever since." |
