I'm Patty Whisler, Coordinator of the Ave Group and a board member of the University District Community Council and the GreaterUniversity Chamber of Commerce.
The University Community Urban Center Plan is dependent on rail transit service to NE 45th and beyond. For years, we've planned in good faith for a community with significantly increased residential and employment densities, a community that must be served by light rail to meet the county's growth management requirements.
In spite of disapointments, frustration, and agonizing reappraisals, I feel the original tunnel routing to NE 45th still makes sense. Other options such as a high level bridge showed fatal flaws a decade ago and still do. I hope your decision will be to go north with the project as planned with just one change, a full evaluation of a tunnel crossing at he Montlake Cut.
