I am a patent attorney specializing in electronics, computer applications, semiconductor processes, digital and analog circuitry, radio frequency circuits and mechanical cases. Somehow that got me into Who's Who in America and in American Law.
As an engineer I worked on transport aircraft and cargo aircraft conversion.
Computers, Electronics and Software
In my professional life, my practice involves all phases of high technology intellectual property law. This includes patent preparation and prosecution, licensing and general patent law.
Prior to that I was Patent Counsel to Micron Technology, Inc. in Boise. There I was responsible for creation of the patent department and development of an intellectual property program for the company, which has successfully issued 500 patents from its inception in 1988 until I reentered private practice in 1994. The most fun was in the first year, when I was forming the department from scratch.
Transport Aircraft and Aerospace Electronics
Before joining Micron, I was with Allied-Signal Aerospace (Bendix), handling mostly their military avionics divisions.
As an engineer, I worked on transport aircraft and cargo aircraft conversion. My proposal for the Sea Scan project virtually eliminated seaborne terrorist attacks. (The original proposal was focused on antisubmarine warfare, but the developed application proved more valuable for rapid surface scanning. I don't know if Sea Scan is being used for its original purpose of underwater detection.)
More recently, I wanted more familiarity with small aircraft maintenance, so I took a part time job working on small aircraft, most of which were flown in backcountry service in Idaho.
I started my law career practicing in Alexandria, Virginia, where I was responsible for a boutique patent firm's electronics docket. Work in private practice gained inventor Gordon Cann "Distinguished Inventor of the Year" award for a more efficient satellite thruster motor.
Stan Protigal - The Early Years
I hold a JD from The Vermont Law School and earned my engineering degree from Northrop University (now part of Caltech) in L.A. I grew up in Delaware
I am a member of the IEEE. When I am not flying, I enjoy bicycling and skiing.
That's me checking the aileron.
