Benefit Brunch & Silent Auction for Bert Sacks Medical Fund
Saturday, January 24, 2004, 10:30 a.m.
University Temple United Methodist Church, 1415 NE 43rd St, Seattle
------------------------
As some of you know, Bert Sacks recently suffered a mild heart attack and is now recovering well. However, without health insurance, he now faces medical bills--for a day and a half's care--of over $57,000 (!), which exceed his life savings.
Since the mid-1990s, Bert has been working full time unpaid to help raise our consciousness concerning the effects of war and economic sanctions as well as tens of thousands of dollar's worth of urgent medical and other supplies for Iraqi children in need. Bert's tireless and compassionate efforts towards nonviolent engagement have been an inspiration to the peace community. Now it is our chance to help Bert.
Our goal is to significantly reduce Bert's financial obligation for these staggering medical treatment costs. Your contributions, large and small, can make this possible.
A benefit brunch and silent auction will be held on Saturday, January 24, at University Temple United Methodist Church in Seattle. Please save this date on your calendar, and RSVP for the brunch by January 19 at bertmedicalfund@yahoo.com or (425)488-9965.
For those unable to attend, please consider sending a check, payable to Keystone Congregational Church with "Bert Sacks Medical Fund" written in the memo line, to: Keystone Church, 5019 Keystone Place N, Seattle, WA 98103. To contribute on-line using a credit card, go to http://bertmedicalfund.org
All donations are tax deductible and will be paid directly to Bert's health care providers by the fiscal sponsor of the fund, Keystone Congregational United Church of Christ.
If you can provide volunteer help for the brunch, or can offer items or services for the auction (e.g., creating a website, painting a room, cooking a dinner, be creative!), please contact the Bert Sacks Medical Fund Committee at bertmedicalfund@yahoo.com or (425)488-9965.
In peace and gratitude,
Rev. Rich Gamble, Gerri and Bob Haynes, Kathy Kelly, Congressman Jim McDermott, Geov Parrish, Abe Osheroff, Dick and Betty Blakney, Andrew Fung, Mark Niehaus, Matt Holdreith, Andrea Forster, Karen Maguire, Bill Lavelle, Susan Ford, Mary Elynne Tappero, Mike McCormick & Abdi Sami
