Why I Didn't Graduate High School

I did not complete high school because I did not believe the focus was on actual learning. The very nature of my high school experience has been to crush the student's desire to learn and instead teach them to follow instructions and complete assignments regardless of their value. High school demands people follow the path laid out for them and not pursue their own dreams.

An education is not simply a series of exercises or the level of a person's grades. An education must be an opportunity for students to learn on their own terms, an opportunity for challenge, and a chance to find meaning in life. It is critical that people are helped to find their own direction and not taught to blindly follow authoritative directives.

In the past few years I have worked hard to find my own direction. And I have realized that I won't find it following other people.

It has taken a lot of courage for me to make the decision not to graduate. It has taken more courage to do this than it did to hold my uncle's hand in the last moments of his life - no one was ashamed of me for that.

I did decide not to graduate and the insight I have gained in making this decision means much more to me than the four years I have spent in high school. More importantly I will remain true to myself.

Thank you for reading this and I hope you understand.
